Bossier Parish Community College is in compliance with this comprehensive standard because the College has a clear and comprehensive mission statement as follows: "The mission of Bossier Parish Community College is to provide instruction and service to its community. This mission is accomplished through courses and programs that provide sound academic education, broad career and workforce training, continuing education, and varied community services through flexible instructional delivery systems. The College provides a wholesome, ethical, and intellectually stimulating environment in which diverse students develop their academic and workforce skills to compete in a technological society."
Bossier Parish Community College is a two-year, coeducational public institution located in Bossier City, Louisiana. Created by the Louisiana legislature in 1966, the College serves both traditional and non-traditional students from Northwest Louisiana and the surrounding area. Bossier Parish Community College offers programs leading to academic certificates and associate degrees, in addition to courses for transfer and non-credit. The College has an open-admissions policy and offers to individuals, without discrimination, the opportunity to pursue a variety of educational goals at a reasonable cost.
To achieve its mission of instruction and service, Bossier Parish Community College is committed to:
- Offering associate degree programs, one- and two-year occupational certificate programs, and specialized career training.
- Delivering education and training/retraining through technical programs, workforce development, community education, and non-credit courses to serve citizen, business, and industry needs.
- Providing opportunity to earn academic college credits for articulation to other institutions of higher learning.
- Providing developmental studies and remedial programs that enable students to acquire basic skills.
- Utilizing a comprehensive program of student services.
The College's mission statement is reviewed annually by the Institutional Effectiveness Subcommittee of the College's Planning Council. The mission statement was revised during the 2005-2006 academic year and was approved by the Council (Minutes from the December 1, 2005 Planning Council Meeting). This most recent modification was approved by the College's management board, the Louisiana Community and Technical College System (LCTCS) at the April 2006 meeting (Minutes from the April 2006 LCTCS Board Meeting).
The mission statement is communicated to students primarily through the General Catalog 18, the Student Handbook, the College Website, and the Fall 2006 Academic Bulletin and Schedule of Classes 5.
Faculty and staff are made aware of the College mission statement by its presence in the Faculty Handbook10 and all resources listed for students. In addition, it can be located under various links located on the College Website.
In summary, BPCC is guided by a comprehensive mission statement which has been approved and is reviewed annually by the College Planning Council. Recent modifications to the statement were approved by the LCTCS board, the College's management board, at its April, 2006 board meeting. Further, BPCC communicates its Mission Statement to students, faculty, staff, and the general public through its General Catalog, Student Handbook, College Website, and Academic Bulletin and Schedule of Classes.
