Reviewer's Comments

In non-academic areas Bossier Parish Community College appears to be in substantial compliance with this SACS standard. Within the academic domain, compliance is more difficult to determine. From their response it appears as if the institution has only recently established assessments for learning outcomes within its academic programs. In their response the institution states, "After gathering data in spring 2007, the results will be analyzed and included in the program's periodic review." The college has developed matrices which identify both course and program specific learning outcomes. Missing from these matrices are the results of any actual assessments and the corresponding use of evaluative results evidencing improvements realized.

The Off-Site Committee encourages the On-Site Committee identify additional documentation as to: 1) the existence of academic program-specific assessments of learning outcomes and; 2) evidence that improvements have resulted from these endeavors in all Bossier Parish Community College academic programs.

Response

During the 2006-2007 academic year Bossier Parish Community College fully implemented its change to a learning outcomes culture. Faculty taught from syllabi based on learning outcomes for the first time in fall 2006. Assessment data was collected in fall 2006 and again in spring 2007. The assessment data has been reviewed by program directors and division chairs and improvements have been planned for the next academic year. Program Learning Outcome Assessment documentation for associate degrees, certificates of technical studies and technical diplomas may be accessed by clicking the links in the table below. Each Program Learning Outcome Assessment document presents assessment data and how results of the assessment will be used to improve the program in the future. Some degree programs have more than one concentration so more than one Program Learning Outcome Assessment may be presented.

Many other examples of techniques which will be used to enhance student learning are found in the Analysis/Use of Results section of each Program Outcomes Learning Assessment report.

Those learning outcomes are being assessed and the results of the assessments are being used to make improvements to enhance student learning.
