In its original Compliance Audit narrative for Comprehensive Standard 3.4.1 (academic program approval), Bossier Parish Community College stated its compliance with the standard because the College involves faculty and administration in the program approval processes and procedures. The College's Compliance Audit stated that the College involved faculty and administration via the standing Curriculum Committee, whose responsibilities include approving all new programs at the college level prior to submission to the state governing boards (the Louisiana Community and Technical College System Board of Supervisors and the Louisiana Board of Regents.) The Off-Site Review Committee directed the On-Site Review Committee to see that the process is being followed. To document that this process is being followed, sample minutes of the Curriculum Committee's showing approval of associate degree programs and academic certificate programs are submitted indicating BPCC Curriculum Committee approval of the following programs: Associate of Arts in Music; Associate of Science in Teacher Education; Associate of Science in General Science; Associate of Applied Science in Web Development and Design; Associate of Applied Science in Pharmacy Technician; Associate of Applied Science in Criminal Justice; Associate of Arts in Theatre; Certificate of Technical Studies in Computer Aided Drafting; Certificate of Technical Studies in Telecommunications; Technical Diploma in Medical Office Specialist; and Certificate of Technical Studies in Pharmacy Technician. The Curriculum Committee, which is composed of faculty and administration, considers and approves new program proposals after positive recommendation from the Vice Chancellor for Academic Affairs. Typically, the Vice Chancellor sends a cover memo to the Curriculum Committee indicating his positive recommendation. No proposal goes to the Curriculum Committee without approval of the Vice Chancellor for Academic Affairs. The new program prospectus, including rationale for approval, is forwarded to the Curriculum Committee. The committee minutes are the official documentation of administrative and faculty input into the approval process. |
