Narrative:

Bossier Parish Community College is in compliance with this comprehensive standard because the College maintains specific and published policies for two-year undergraduate students in regards to evaluating, awarding and accepting credit for transfer, advanced placement, and professional certificates. BPCC does not award credit for experiential learning. The College's policies for evaluating, awarding and accepting credit for transfer, advanced placement, and professional certificates are consistent with the its mission and support the course work offered by the academic divisions. All of the course work reflects the collegiate level and supports the College's degree programs. Bossier Parish Community College (BPCC) assumes the responsibility for the academic quality of any credit recorded on the transcript.

Upon application, or shortly thereafter, all students--whether part-time, full-time, or transfer--are required to send for and submit all transcripts from previous educational institutions. The Registrar reviews all transcripts for validity to assist in determining students' GPAs and the number of credit hours that will effectively transfer to BPCC as stated in the school's admissions standards which are published in the General Catalog 20-28.

The College administers Advanced Placement examinations, challenge examinations for selected courses, and credit examinations in subject areas listed in the school catalog. Credits earned through testing in the Certified Professional Secretary Examination and credits for Paramedic non-credit courses earned at accredited institutions are also accepted through the Admissions Policy. Students may also earn credit through College Level Examination Program (CLEP) or Defense Association for Non-Traditional Education Services (DANTES) general and subject examinations as indicated in the General Catalog 48-52.

Credit for military educational experiences is given to honorably discharged veterans in accordance with Admissions/Registrar's Office policies. These transfer and credit evaluation policies are published in the Bossier Parish Community College General Catalog. Bossier Parish Community College complies with the stated mission goals of creating course work and learning outcomes at the collegiate level. These are comparable with the institution's degree programs based on the criteria established under BPCC degree program listings, as well as General Education Competencies as stated in the General Catalog. College academic policies follow the established criteria of Louisiana Board of Regents Articulation System and the Louisiana Public Higher Education General Education Articulation System.

The Louisiana Board of Regents Public Higher Education Matrix was established as the result of a consortium agreement between Louisiana public colleges and universities involving mutual evaluation/approval by faculty and administrators of the courses listed on the matrix as equivalent. The matrix consists of approximately one-hundred courses which are primarily freshman and sophomore level courses applicable to a broad range of academic curricula. Bossier Parish Community College adheres to this matrix. For transfer courses not on the matrix the Bossier Parish Community College registrar reviews course content by consulting the appropriate academic catalog from the sending institution. The registrar consults the academic division chair when appropriate to determine the acceptability of the course as equivalent to a Bossier Parish Community College course applicable to degree and certificate credit. The Registrar has the final authority for certifying that transfer courses are at the collegiate level and comparable to Bossier Parish Community College courses.
