The Library is a two-story facility located in the College's Administration Building. The Library contains numerous study tables, carrels, and three study rooms. The student's learning needs are met through various resources to which all the College's students have equal access. The Library offers online databases for all students and provides a web page to facilitate a concise one-stop listing for distance education students. Additional resources are also available to students in the Learning Center.
The Library is open over 70 hours each week, and its collection numbers over 38,000 items, which include books, journals, audiovisual materials (DVDs, CDs, video and audio cassettes) and microfiche. Current newspapers are available to library users. The Library offers access to a variety of electronic resources, including indexes and databases which contain numerous newspaper and journal articles.
The Library is a member of LOUIS: The Louisiana Library Network, a consortium of Louisiana libraries. LOUIS provides a common interface for searching the online catalog of all member institutions. Through LOUIS membership, the Library also provides student access to more than 40 databases in all academic and research areas. Many of these databases can be accessed by students both on and off campus.
The Library is also a member of the Louisiana Academic Library Information and Network Consortium (LALINC), a consortium that fosters resource sharing among Louisiana libraries. LALINC allows current students, faculty and staff of Louisiana colleges and universities to borrow items from other academic libraries in Louisiana by presenting a LALINC card at that library.
The Technology Resource Center (TRC) is the Library's computer lab. It is located on the second floor of the Library and provides Internet access and access to a variety of academic software. Each computer's software package includes Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Access and Front Page), as well as Microsoft Internet Explorer and other programs related to specific academic disciplines. The 56 computers are available to all Library users, and assistance with the machines is obtainable during all library-operating hours. Internet access includes the entire Library's online resources, the Library catalog, and the general Internet, including e-mail. Each computer is networked to printers. Two of the computers are ADA compliant. In addition to these computers, each of the five academic classroom buildings on campus contain two or more computer labs available for student use with Internet access and academic and productivity software.
The appropriateness and the quality of resources provided by the Library are evaluated each fall and spring semester with student surveys (Library) and once a year, in the spring semester, with faculty surveys. Student survey results from the past three semesters have rated the Library as Excellent or Good for "Usefulness of resources," "Online catalog," and "Indexes and databases" at no lower than 98 percent. The TRC is evaluated during each fall and spring semester with student surveys (TRC). The results of these surveys are then evaluated, and the facilities and services provided are adjusted to meet the needs of the users.
Additional resources provided by the College's Learning Resources include the Learning Center and Electronic Learning.
