Bossier Parish Community College is in compliance with this comprehensive standard because the College provides a sufficient number of qualified staff, with appropriate education and/or experience both in library or other learning/information resources, to accomplish the mission of the institution. The Library and other learning/information resources staffs of Bossier Parish Community College are those faculty and staff employed in the Library, Technology Resource Center, Learning Center, and Educational Technology Division.
Staffing levels at the College's Library meet guidelines established by the Association of College and Research Libraries (ACRL). These standards for college libraries provide benchmarks for education and training of professional library staff. BPCC's current Library professional staff is adequately qualified. The staff currently consists of the Dean of Learning Resources with a Master's Degree in Library Science from an American Library Association (ALA) accredited program, four librarians with Master's Degrees in Library Science or Library and Information Science from ALA accredited programs, one library assistant with a Bachelor's degree, and four classified assistants, two of whom have Associate degrees.
Combined results from the past three faculty surveys demonstrate that the College's faculty view librarians as Good or Excellent in "willing to help" (99 percent), and "quality of answers" (100 percent) and library staff as Good or Excellent in "willing to help" (100 percent). In addition, combined results from the past three student surveys show that ninety-eight percent of students indicate an Excellent or Good "Friendly or helpful staff" and "Knowledge of staff."
The Technology Resource Center (TRC) has one full-time staff member who holds two Associate degrees and is part of the Library staff. In addition, the TRC uses student workers who monitor the computers and provide assistance.
The College's Learning Center, under the direction of the Director of Developmental Services, has three staff members: a Program Coordinator, a Lab Manager, and an Administrative Assistant. Additionally, student workers are hired on a semester basis to assist with tutoring.
Educational requirements for the Learning Center staff include a Master's degree for the Director, a Bachelor's degree for the Program Coordinator, and Associate degrees for the Lab Manager and Administrative Assistant. Student workers, recommended by a faculty member, must submit an application to both Human Resources and the Learning Center, and have a "B" average in the course(s) they will tutor. They receive training in communication skills and computer technology, as well as attend regular in-service meetings to update and evaluate their performance. Additionally, they are required to attend an orientation each semester to discuss guidelines and rules and must be certified through a tutor developmental program.
The College's Division of Educational Technology has five full-time employees: Director of Educational Technology, Assistant Director of Educational Technology, Instructional Technology Specialist, Instructional Technology Assistant, and a Secretary. The credentialing for the Educational Technology staff comprises a Director with a Master's degree, an Assistant Director with a Master's Degree, an Instructional Technology Specialist with 25 years of experience, and an Instructional Technology Assistant with an Associate degree. Each member of the Educational Technology Staff has clearly defined duties as administrators or support personnel.
Bossier Parish Community College employs a sufficient number of qualified staff to accomplish the mission of the College. Staff members in the Library, Technology Resource Center, Learning Center, and Division of Educational Technology meet the requirements for appropriate education and/or experience to fulfill the needs of the College and its students.
