Program length for all programs at Bossier Parish Community College is carefully constructed to fulfill requirements by SACS, the Board of Regents, and individual accrediting agencies. Program length is reviewed by the program directors, program advisory committees, the Curriculum Committee, the LCTC System, and the Board of Regents. The Division of Science and Allied Health has five associate degree programs which exceed the customary minimum 60 credit hour requirement. The Division Chair of Science and Allied Health has submitted an explanation for the number of hours in Pharmacy Technician, Medical Assistant, Physical Therapist Assistant, Respiratory Therapy, and EMT- Paramedic. Medical Assistant Program Advisory Committee Minutes show that program structure, length, and curriculum for this program were discussed and no changes were made. Physical Therapist Assistant Advisory Committee Minutes show that program length was reviewed with no recommendations for changes. EMT-Paramedic Advisory Committee Minutes show that program length and curriculum were discussed with a recommendation to shorten the length of the night program in order to increase retention. Respiratory Therapy Advisory Committee Minutes show that a discussion was held to convert the Associate of Science in Respiratory Therapy degree to an Associate of Applied Science in Respiratory Therapy to more closely match the purpose of the program. Bossier Parish Community College Curriculum Sheets for the Associate of Applied Science/Certificate of Technical Studies in Pharmacy Technician and Associate of Science/Certificate of Technical Studies in Respiratory Therapy outline courses required for degree or certificate completion. Form F-3 and Form F-4 from the Medical Assistant Program Review show how the College addresses the required content areas and required competencies for their accreditation. The 2006 Annual Accreditation Report: Curriculum Plan for Physical Therapist Assistant outlines required courses for degree completion, and the American Physical Therapy Association's A Normative Model of Physical Therapist Assistant Education: Version 2006 outlines Curricular Models for the Physical Therapist Assistant program. The Commission on Accreditation of Allied Health Education Programs lists accreditation Standards and Guidelines for the Profession of Respiratory Care and Standards and Guidelines for the Accreditation of Educational Programs in the Emergency Medical Services Professions. Finally, the EMT-Paramedic: National Standard Curriculum outlines competencies, course length, and prerequisites necessary to complete the EMT-Paramedic degree. |
