
Objective:
To provide students with the skills and knowledge necessary to work in a laboratory setting in the disciplines of forensics, medical diagnostics, environmental and agricultural sciences, and life science research at the level of biotechnology technician.
Specific Requirements:
Students wishing to pursue the TCA in biotechnology must first meet College admissions requirements. Additionally, they must show competency in English, mathematics, and reading, as demonstrated through ACT or placement test scores or completion of all required remedial level courses. Students must have completed the following prerequisite courses prior to enrolling in Biotechnology 201 and must complete each course before enrolling in the next higher level biotechnology course.
- College level chemistry class with lab (CHEM 107 or 101)
- Microbiology 110 or 206
- Additional prerequisites may apply to some courses (See course description section of the catalog)
Dual enrollment status for these biotechnology courses may be granted to high school students who meet the following requirements:
- Successful completion of high school biology
- Successful completion of high school chemistry
- ACT composite of 21 or greater
- Completion of an application
for High School Students in the Biotechnology Program and acceptance into the program
