Technical Competency Area in Laboratory Assistant

Objective:

To prepare students to work in physician offices, medical clinics, or hospital laboratories; to appropriately collect, process, and test laboratory specimens at the clinical assistant level, according to standard operating procedures.

Students pursuing a Technical Competency Area in Laboratory Assistant must first meet College admission requirements. Students who have successfully completed the BPCC Phlebotomy program may apply for acceptance into the Laboratory Assistant Program. The Laboratory Assistant Program includes four didactic and two laboratory courses. Diagnostic and Clinical Procedures (ALHT 208) will include a clinical training rotation. This class is limited to fifteen (15) students.

Students who are admitted to the Laboratory Assistant Program must provide current health information and current health insurance. Upon selection and completion of the courses in the Laboratory Assistant curriculum, the student will receive the Technical Competency Area in Laboratory Assistant.

**Qualifying Courses: All must be completed with at least a grade of "C" in each class to receive the Technical Competency Area in Laboratory Assistant.

NOTE: A clinical component will be included in ALHT 208 Laboratory.
