Dr. Douglas Peterson is named Chancellor and serves from 1973 to 1988.

Record-breaking Fall enrollment of 1100 – making BPCC the second largest higher education institution in the Shreveport/Bossier City area.
First summer semester offered. Estimated cost (fees and books) $50 - 100 per semester. 1975 Regional science fair sponsored by BPCC established. 1976 First issue of college newspaper Kaleidoscope published. 1977 David Horner and Jerry Slack, art professors, create BPCC’s logo. Community Education Division is established with 21 non-academic courses and 533 students. Carol Waggoner, director.
The Northwest Louisiana Police Training Academy established to provide officer training and retraining in ten northwest Louisiana parishes. (Renamed the Criminal Justice Institute in 1984.)
