Administration Classroom (AC) Building is dedicated.
May 17: First commencement. Eight students receive degrees: 1 Business Administration, 3 Law Enforcement, 4 Office Administration.
1981
Governor David Treen opens the BPCC exit sign on I-20.
Associate Degree in Occupational Studies in Medical Assistant was introduced. 1982
Basketball program is established with Mike McConathy as head coach. Team member Rodger Kislo suggests the name Cavalier as the mascot for BPCC.
Number of faculty (full-time, and adjunct) increases to 66. 1983 In December BPCC receives accreditation from Southern Association of Colleges and Schools. SACS comment: "BPCC faculty both competent and enthusiastic, asset to be highly prized". 1984 Associate Degree in Occupational Studies in Data Processing was approved. 1985 International Science and Engineering Fair is held in Bossier City, sponsored by BPCC. 1986
Culinary Arts program is established.
BPCC acquires NASA Educational Resource Center for training teachers on space programs. Project R.E.A.D. is established to fight illiteracy. 1987 Cavalier cheerleading squad is formed.
English Instructor Mike Beard suggests the BPCC motto: "Still growing... still caring."
BPCC celebrates first Homecoming. Library/Classroom Building opens and BPCC library moves into the new facility with Ginger Bryan as director. Mary Cane Folk Festival is held to commemorate BPCC's 20th anniversary. 1988 James Conerly named Chancellor and serves from 1988 to 1994. 1989 The Drama Program is established with Stephen Slaughter as founder of Cavalier Players. Ladies in Gold Danceline is established with Vicki Fulgham as first director and choreographer.
