The 1990s


1990

Culinary Arts is accredited.  Headed by Executive Chef Willie J. Thomas; one year certificate program established in Community Education.

South Complex is established to eliminate overcrowding.


1991

Drama program's first musical: Grease.Grease

First graduation in the Bossier Civic Center.


1992

Bossier City Mayor proclaims 1992 the "Year of BPCC" as the college celebrated its 25th anniversary.


1993

The Learning Center

 

The Learning Center is established; it’s the first college-level tutoring center in Louisiana.

 

 

 


1994

Tom Carleton Chancellor is named Chancellor and is serving to the present day.Chancellor Tom Carleton

BPCC and the City of Bossier City co-sponsor the first Christmas musical billed as a "gift to the City".


1995

Bossier Parish Community College entered into articulation agreements with Louisiana Tech University, Northwestern State University, Grambling State University, Southern Arkansas University, Kilgore Junior College, and Louisiana State University-Shreveport.

Distance Education program is established with Kathleen Gay as director.


1996

BPCC Foundation Signing

 

The BPCC Foundation is organized with Will Hubbard, president of Citizens National Bank, as the Foundations' first president.

 

 

 

The College added new associate degree programs to the curriculum in Physical Therapist Assistant, EMT: Paramedic, and Computer Drafting and Design.


1997

University of Louisiana System signing

 

July 1 BPCC becomes a member of the University of Louisiana System.

 

 

 

 


1998

A state constitutional amendment creates the Louisiana Community and Technical College System (LCTCS).


1999

July 1 BPCC becomes a member of the new Louisiana Community and Technical College System.

Health Science Center groundbreaking

 

 

Health Science Center opens on Doctor's Drive.  James K. Elrod, CEO of Willis-Knighton Health Center supports this venue.

 

 

 

Telecommunications

 

Several programs were added: Associate degrees in Industrial Technology and Theatre; academic certificates in Computer Aided Drafting, Pharmacy Technician, and Telecommunications.
