The Certificate of general Studies curriculum is designed to provide students with a broad foundation of fundamental academic skills. This certificate program offers students who are undecided about career goals or unsure of preparation of collegiate studies the opportunity to increase readiness for collegiate study, explore career opportunities, and improve individual capacity for learning, personal growth, and interpersonal communication skills. The curriculum provides students that are employed or those seeking employment with general skills that will enhance marketability in a career. Additionally, this certificate framework allows students that intend to transfer to other two-year or four-year institutions the opportunity to tailor their certificate courses to meet the admission or pre-requisite requirements of the receiving institution.
PROGRAM REVIEW:
- The curriculum consists of 30 credit hours of freshman-level courses.
- Courses taken will fulfill general education requirements at most two-year and four-year institutions in Louisiana and the nation.
- Eight courses (24 credit hours) are selected from courses listed on the Louisiana Board of Regents General Education Matrix, which assures transferability to other colleges and universities in the state of Louisiana.
- The certificate provides a broad foundation in basic academic skills. These skills include: communication skills, analytical reasoning, arts and humanities appreciation, and social and natural science concepts at the college level.
- The completion of the certificate will indicate to current or potential employers that students have achieved basic collegiate level skills.
