Known Issue with Internet Explorer 7 and Blackboard
Please be aware that Microsoft has begun distributing version 7.0 of their Internet Explorer web browser ("IE 7.0") as a critical update. If it has not done so already, this new version should install itself on your PC as part of the normal Windows Update process. Testing so far indicates that IE 7.0 causes a problem with the Visual Text Box Editor and the Test Timer in the version of Blackboard we're running at BPCC (Release 6, Application Pack 3).
To address these two issues, you must add http://blackboard.bpcc.edu as a Trusted Site and you must set the browser scripting to Allow Status Bar Updates via Script. The following will help you to complete those settings.
Add BPCC’s Blackboard as a Trusted Site:
- Open the Blackboard login page in Internet Explorer 7.0 and choose Tools and select Internet Options.

- Go to the Security tab and click on the Trusted Sites icon. Click Sites to open the Trusted Sites box.

- The URL for the Blackboard Academic Suite server should appear in the Add this website to the zone field. If not, enter the URL that is used to access the Blackboard Academic Suite in the field. ( http://blackboard.bpcc.edu ) Click Add.

- If the site was added correctly then the Blackboard site should display under Websites
NOTE: Make sure that Require server verification (https:) for all sites in this zone is NOT checked.

- Choose Close and then Ok.
- Close the Internet Explorer window and reopen to the Blackboard website.
Set the browser scripting to Allow Status Bar Updates via Script
- Open the Blackboard login page in Internet Explorer 7.0 and choose Tools and select Internet Options.

- Go to the Security Tab and click the Internet zone. Then select Custom level.

- Scroll down to Scripting. Enable “Allow status bar updates script”. Select OK.

- You may receive a Warning. Please select Yes.

- Choose Close and then Ok .
- Close the Internet Explorer window and reopen to the Blackboard website.
