Known Issue with Microsoft VISTA and Blackboard

Microsoft VISTA users.

The BPCC Blackboard team does not recommend the use of Microsoft VISTA for use with BPCC's Blackboard system. We can only support Microsoft XP operating systems in conjunction with Internet Explorer as the web browser.

If you can not avoid the use of Microsoft VISTA for your personal computer, Blackboard recommends the use of Firefox 2.0as a web browser with the VISTA operating system. However, BPCC has not tested this configuration and can not support the VISTA/Firefox configuration at this time.

Issues reported when using VISTA with Internet Explorer 7:

• can not use the text editor to submit information
• assessment/test errors
• locked tests
• stalled tests, could not continue with the test

Cause of Issue:

• Some controls do not function correctly in Internet Explorer 7 because they require a component not available in Windows Vista.

Solution:

• Vista users MUST download and install the Firefox 2.0browser and avoid all use of Internet Exploer 7 with Blackboard. Firefox is a free installation and will not conflict with your existing web browsers

BPCC takes this issue very seriously and for that reason cannot support VISTA at this time. You can visit http://www.bpcc.edu/edtech/ed_software.htm to view BPCC's recommended computer settings and software. BPCC will continue to search for a solution to this issue.
