GraduationBPCC 1st is a three-year initiative at Bossier Parish Community College (BPCC) focused on one priority area - improving success outcomes for first-year students. The implementation of the initiative will be guided by a core team of BPCC faculty and staff members.

The Lumina Foundation for Education has provided a $225,000 grant with a $100,000 match from Bossier Parish Community College to support the initiative. A planning grant from the Louisiana Community and Technical College System (LCTCS) made the grant award from Lumina Foundation possible.

Although Louisiana is not an Achieving the Dream state and BPCC is not an Achieving the Dream campus, BPCC's initiative uses elements of the Achieving the DreamWill open new browser window or tabmodel. Achieving the Dream: Community Colleges Count is a multiyear national initiative to help more community college students succeed.

The primary goals of this initiative are to:

  1. enhance BPCC's student success culture;
  2. increase the number of first-time, full-time associate degree students who re-enroll from one semester to the next; and
  3. increase the number of first-time, full-time associate degree students who complete developmental courses and move to credit bearing courses.

Work plans, timelines, and benchmarks for each of these interventions may be viewed under the "Timeline/Project Progress" tab. An important component of the BPCC 1st initiative is its direct link with the College's Quality Enhancement Plan through the third intervention, "intervention strategies for developmental math students." The core team values these type of connections and will focus on building additional linkages with other success initiative at the College.
