Bossier Parish Community CollegeAcademic Bulletin Electronic Learning Courses Students participating in electronic learning courses have greater freedom of scheduling, but electronic courses require more self-discipline than traditional on-campus classes. Electronic courses require much more time than on-campus courses depending on the content, and are generally more fast paced than traditional classes. You can expect to spend anywhere from 10-15 hours per week per online course. Online courses require a lot of reading, research, and critical thinking on your part as an online learner. You must take an active approach to your learning. Also, many of the traditional courses taught at BPCC are web-enhanced by the wide utilization of the Blackboard Course Management System. Students enrolled in electronic courses need to be computer literate; goal oriented; capable of learning on their own through reading, research, and assignments; be able to save and manage files on their computer; know how to send and open email attachments; check email; access the Internet; and participate in the online course at least 3-5 times per week. Some CIS courses require access to certain software programs. Consult the listing of online courses for this information. See instructions on Getting Started in Blackboard. Online CoursesStudents taking online courses will be utilizing BPCC's Blackboard E-Learning Platform. Instructors delivering courses via the Internet will provide their students with course specific information posted to the course site or they may require that you attend a MANDATORY face-to-face orientation session on BPCC's campus. If you are enrolled in an online course(s) for the first time at BPCC, you will also be REQUIRED to participate in a general online orientation session provided by the Division of Educational Technology. You may participate in these general online orientation sessions either on-site or online. In addition, CDs are available with this information on it. You may pick up one at the Educational Technology Department, Building D-217. You will need to show your BPCC ID in order to receive a CD. If you feel that you need to participate in a face-to-face setting, you may attend one of the on-site orientation sessions. If you feel that you do not need to participate in a face-to-face setting, you may choose to participate in an online version of the orientation. To do so, please follow the instructions below. Log on to www.bpcc.edu/blackboard/orientation Follow the steps and procedures for viewing orientation information online and for submitting the assessments at the end of the orientation. Should you have questions or concerns, contact the Division of Educational Technology, 318-678-6023. Fall 2008 Listing of Online Courses NOTE: Orientation information for online courses may be posted to the Blackboard course site and/or delivered on-site face-to-face depending on the course(s).
