Project R.E.A.D.
Coordinator: Tiyonda McCoy Project R.E.A.D. (Reading Enhances Adult Development) is a college-based literacy program designed to train community volunteers to teach adults how to read. A 12-hour tutor-training workshop certifies volunteers in the Laubach Way to Reading. Upon successful completion of the workshop, volunteers are matched with an adult non-reader, and the team begins meeting privately, on a one-on-one basis, for tutoring sessions. Tutors and students meet approximately two hours each week in a place convenient to both: library, school, church, etc. Materials and training are provided free of charge, and non-readers are assured of confidentiality. For more information, contact Coordinator Tiyonda McCoy at (318) 678-6197. |
