Policies and Procedures

Fast Track Attendance Policy:

Because of the fast-paced nature of the on-line Fast Track courses, adherence to College attendance policies is crucial. The Fast Track Attendance Policy is as follows:

“Class attendance is regarded as an obligation as well as a privilege, and on-line Fast Track students are expected to participate in the on-line course on a daily basis. Failure to do so may jeopardize the student’s grade in a class or the student’s overall scholastic standing.

Attendance will be checked by verifying the completion of assignments by the appropriate deadlines. Unexcused late or missed submissions may be counted as an absence. When a student has accumulated excessive unexcused absences, then the instructor may suspend the student. As a result of this action, the instructor will assign the student a grade of ‘F’ for the course.”

Instructors should incorporate this statement into their students’ section information sheets. The definition of excused or unexcused absences must fall within the parameters of the “Class Attendance” policy found in the Catalog and the Student Handbook and should appear following the standard statement quoted above.

Approved by Dr. Stan Wilkins, Vice Chancellor for Academic Affairs, on December 3, 2007.

Fast Track Retention Policy:

Instructors should contact the Fast Track Program Director when any absence occurs so that the student may be contacted concerning the attendance policy. The Program Director will act as the liaison between the student and the instructor to aid in retention of the student and to improve the student’s performance in the class.

If suspension is necessary, instructors should notify the Fast Track Program Director so that the scheduling issues that may arise when a Fast Track student does not complete a course within the normal sequence can be handled by the Program Director.

At the end of each sequence, a copy of the final grades as submitted through Web for Faculty should be forwarded to the Program Director. This information will also be used to track success statistics, monitor financial aid office requirements, and assist in schedule changes when appropriate for the student with grades lower than a “C.”
