The Center for Learning Assistance at Bossier Parish Community College is BPCC's first "Center" with a distinct focus on providing learning assistance to all students. The Writing Support Services Learning Laboratory provides writing specialists to help students succeed in writing for any course. The Learning Center (TLC) is one of the organizational units within the Center and includes a number of peer and computer-based tutorial services for students. The Center for Learning Assistance supports BPCC students through another unit, Smarthinking, an online one-to-one peer tutoring service. Collaborative initiatives with departments and divisions across BPCC that support student learning inside and outside the classroom are a primary purpose for the Center for Learning Assistance.

Location

The Learning Center is located on the second floor of Building A, Room 248.

The Center is handicapped accessible. For more information contact The Learning Center at 678-6059.

Purpose

The purpose of the Learning Center is to enhance instruction provided in the classroom and to assist the Bossier Parish Community College student in achieving academic success, gaining self-confidence, and becoming an independent learner

Tutorial Services

Tutors undergo a rigorous screening process before being selected to work in the Learning Center. Each is required to meet specific requirements and adhere to guidelines. Tutors receive training in communication skills and computer technology and attend regular in-service meetings to update and evaluate their performance.

The Learning Center provides a relaxed atmosphere for students studying alone or working in groups, thus making it an ideal extension of the classroom.
