Associate Degrees

An associate degree is a two-year degree granted by a college upon successful completion of the degree-specific curriculum requirements.

The Division of Business and Computer Science offers Associate of Applied Science degrees in Business Administration and Computer Information Systems.

The associate degree programs prepare graduates for jobs in these professional areas, prepares students to make informed career path decisions while developing workplace skills necessary to succeed, provides students the opportunity to earn academic college credits for transfer to four-year institutions of higher education, and provide the technical and general education necessary for qualified entrance into management, sales, office-related and computer-related occupations.

Associate of Applied Science degrees (AAS):

Certificates of Technical Studies

The Division offers two Certificates of Technical Studies that enable students to develop their academic and vocational skills to compete in a technological society.Certificates of Technical Studies are one-year programs that prepare students for job-specific skills.The Certificates of Technical Studies offered through the Division of Business and Computer Science are Culinary Arts and Legal Secretary.

Students entering either of the certificate programs will need:

  • High school diploma or an equivalency certificate (such as GED).
  • Application for admission to Bossier Parish Community College and a $15 registration fee.
  • College transcripts (if applicable).
  • Placement of participants in various levels of the program will be determined by ACT scores or by placement exams.
  • Students must meet prerequisites before enrolling in any given course.

Students entering any of the business degree plans will need:

  • High school diploma or an equivalency certificate (such as GED).
  • Application for admission to Bossier Parish Community College and a $15 fee.

Mission of the Division of Business and Computer Science

The mission of the Division of Business and Computer Science at Bossier Parish Community College is to provide an outstanding faculty and educational facility to foster a creative environment for collaborative learning and innovative thinking for the citizens of Northwest Louisiana. We will impart excellent instruction in the areas of accounting, business administration, computer information systems, culinary arts, economics, legal secretary, management, marketing, and web design. Our division will be at the forefront of technology, business and culinary arts to prepare our students to succeed in a dynamic world, and we will serve our community through cooperative partnerships with local businesses and organizations.

Division Objectives

  • To offer associate degree programs in Business Administration, Computer Information Systems, and Web Development and Design.
  • To offer technical competency areas in basic management, bookkeeping, business communications, software applications and web design.
  • To offer certificates of technical studies in culinary arts and legal secretary.
  • To prepare students to make informed career path decisions and to develop workplace skills necessary to succeed.
  • To be a gateway for students to earn academic college credits for transfer to four-year institutions of higher education.

Information on Certified Professional Secretary Credit Examination

Up to 18 hours may be awarded to a student who successfully passes the Certified Professional Secretary examination and certified Administrative Professional examinations, which are administered by the International Association of Administrative Professionals.
