Learning outcomes
Recipients of the Certificate of Technical Studies in Computer Aided Drafting will have demonstrated
- higher-level thinking skills related to problem solving and manipulation of complex technical data relating to engineering/architectural designs;
- ability to create complete and accurate blueprints from engineering/architectural sketches and projects, while using the most expeditious drafting techniques;
- skills in exhibiting professionalism through ethical behavior and maintaining of confidentiality of client/company designs as set forth by established guidelines;
- active listening, interviewing, instructing, and documenting in response to client/fellow professional needs;
- effective written, oral, and graphic communication with administrators, staff, clients, and fellow employees.
Specific certificate information:
BPCC’s survey of the Shreveport/Bossier area confirms the need for computer drafters in the local job market. CADD operators need to have a broad understanding of engineering graphics, print reading and sketching, computer drafting fundamentals, and advanced computer drafting operations and customizing skills. BPCC’s courses are designed to provide a strong foundation in the areas.
In the certificate program, students study drafting and use computer-based systems to produce or revise technical drawings needed in the design and development of machines, products, buildings, manufacturing processes, and other work. These technical drawings can then be interpreted by people who actually produce/use the products.
