Objective:
The certificate provides students with skills and knowledge necessary for a computer aided drafter working in industry. This academic certificate, which complements the Associate of Applied Science in Computer Drafting and Design, provides a shorter path into the computer drafting career field. The certificate also allows those presently working in CAD, who are self-taught computer drafters, to acquire certification to show their level of technical training.
Specific Degree Information:
In the certificate program, students study drafting in one area chosen from architectural, structural, electric, manufacturing, civil/map, and piping. CAD technicians use computer-based systems to produce or revise technical illustrations needed in the design and development of machines, products, buildings, manufacturing process, and other work. The drafter puts the designer's concept into technical illustrations, which can then be read by the people who actually produce the product.
Every effort will be made to make these courses available in a one-year course of study, but some of the laboratory courses may not be offered because of conflicts. If a course is not offered within that year, substitutions may be made with the approval of the academic advisor. Therefore, it is important to meet with assigned advisors on a regular basis.
