Mission Statement

DEAF CAVS Club's main purpose is to educate students and staffs about the many facets of Deaf Culture and importance of American Sign Language. The club serves as a meeting place where people can exchange opinions about Deafness and to socializing with Deaf students to gain unique knowledge about their Identity as Deaf people. This club's objective is to promote Deaf Awareness at Bossier Parish Community College students and staffs as well as to our local communities.

This club is open to all Deaf, deaf, hard of hearing, hearing students and faulty staffs of BPCC.

Fun Facts about Deaf People and ASL

  • Only 25-30% of spoken English can be lip read
  • American Sign language is not English on the hands
  • Sign language all over the world is not universal
  • Not all Deaf people know sign language
  • First Residential School for Deaf children called American School for the Deaf was established in April 15, 1817.
