The primary objective of this program is to provide the students with the skills and knowledge to work in the performance and/ or technical areas of theatre. In addition students may use this degree to advance to a four-year institution.

Bossier Parish Community College's theatre program offers the following courses:

THTR 101 Humanities for Theatre - A survey of the components of the basic elements and participating artists in the theatrical experience to enhance the viewer's appreciation.

THTR 112 Stagecraft - A course designed to present the basic information needed to construct, paint, light, and shift scenery for the stage.

THTR 113 Stage Lighting 1 - Practical and theoretical experience in stage lighting and equipment and their uses in both the professional and non-professional stage.

THTR 114 Scene Design 1 - A study of line, texture, mass composition, and color; how these elements relate to the design of scenery for the theatre by the building of models and by color rendering.

THTR 116 Stage Management - A study of the responsibilities, organization, and methods used in the operations of the stage manager in theatre.

THTR 120 Makeup for the Stage - A study of the application of research, design, techniques, and historical and stylized variations in creation of makeup for the stage.

THTR 131 Elements of Theatre - A study of concept creation and application in the performing and technical areas of theatre.

THTR 153 Acting 1 - The study and application of basic acting theories and principles with an emphasis on stage and film techniques.

THTR 154 Acting 2 - An advanced study of the application of basic acting theories and principles with an emphasis on stage and film techniques.

THTR 156 Voice for the Stage - Principles of vocal production applied to development of characterization for the stage.

THTR 157 Stage Movement 1 - A performance class that introduces traditional techniques of movement styles for the stage.

THTR 211 Theatre Arts Apprenticeship - This course provides curriculum credit for practical work experience secured either through an approved apprenticeship or professional work.

THTR 212 Advanced Stagecraft - An advanced study and application of the skills required to construct, paint, light, and shift scenery for the stage.

THTR 213 Stage Lighting 2 - An extension of Stage Lighting 1, with an emphasis in utilizing computer technology to control intelligent lighting fixtures.

THTR 214 Scene Design 2 - An extension of Scene Design 1, with an emphasis in utilizing computer technology.

THTR 215 Scene Painting - A Study and application of the techniques necessary for creating stage textures and scene illusions.

THTR 216 Technical Direction/ Stage Technology - A study and application of the principles involved in coordinating and supervising the execution of all technical theatre activities.

THTR 220 Costuming 1 - A study in the application of research, design, construction techniques, and historical and stylized variations in the creation of costumes for the stage.

THTR 221 Costuming 2 - An advanced study in the application of research, design, construction techniques, and historical and stylized variations in the creation of costumes for the stage.

THTR 232 Theatre Management - A study of the application of the management principles required to successfully administer the operations of a theatre arts organization, including planning, funding, budgeting, promotions, business operations, and management.

THTR 255 Directing 1 - The director's introduction to play production: staging, actor coaching, scenery, lighting, backstage organization, makeup, and costuming.

THTR 256 Directing 2 - Continued study and application of directing principles with emphasis on period styles, directing methodologies, and alternative spaces.

THTR 257 Stage Movement 2 - Continued study in the techniques of movement and dance for the stage.

THTR 260 Special Projects - An instructor supervised course that allows an advanced student to explore specific styles, designs, techniques, and production practices in a chosen area of theatre.
