Tech Tip: What does Mute Assignment do?

Canvas does a great job of notifying students and instructors of any changes going on in a course once that course has been published. Unfortunately, that is not always a good thing when we are grading papers.

Luckily for us, Canvas features a tool called Mute Assignment. Muting an assignment or quiz stops all notifications about that item's grading until you decide to unmute it.

To mute an assignment from the Gradebook:

  1. Locate the corresponding Gradebook column for the assignment/quiz you want to mute.
  2. Hover over the name of the assignment/quiz and click the drop-down menu.
  3. Click Mute Assignment.
  4. A confirmation dialog will appear. Click Mute Assignment to confirm the action.
