The staff in the Financial Aid office has always attempted to act in the best interest of our students and their families. We have adopted the LCTCS Financial Aid Code of Conduct to define our relationship to student loan providers. Additionally, as members of the National Association of Student Financial Aid Administrators ("NASFAA") we have also adopted NASFAA's Statement of Ethical Principles and Code of Conduct for Institutional Financial Aid Professionals.
For your convenience, Bossier Parish Community College provides students with a list of all lenders whom have provided student loans to our students in the past several years.
If you decide to use one of these lenders, please access the link(s) provided below to research each lender's borrower benefits and choose the lender that meets your individual needs.
Remember, lender choice is an important decision. You do not have to limit yourself to the college's lender list. For a broad comparison of rates, go to FinAid.org, which tracks discounts by major lenders.
If you prefer a lender that is not on this list, please provide our office with the lender name and lender code (if known). We will be happy to process your loan with any lender who participates in the Federal Family Education Loan Program (FFELP).
Please do your research.
Lenders often advertise that they have the best loan product available. While this may be true, they may not be the right lender for you. To help you decide, use the following checklist:
- Dedicate some time to calling, e-mailing lenders, or visiting the lender website.
- Ask the following questions:
- Do you charge loan fees?
- What are your repayment benefits?
- What do I have to do to receive these benefits and how are the benefits lost?
- If I borrow $10,000 over my college career and I receive all these benefits, what will be the total dollar amount I will repay by the end of my 10-year repayment?
- If I borrow $10,000 over my college career and I receive NONE of these benefits, what will be the total dollar amount I will repay by the end of my 10-year repayment?
- Compare the cost of your loan, the service you received, and any other advantages to using each lender you contacted
