BPCC Chancellor 1994 – 2009

A graduate of Northwestern State University, Tom Carleton received a BA in Social Sciences in 1967 and a Masters in Social Sciences in 1972. Carleton began his teaching career at Airline High School in Bossier City, LA.

In 1974, he moved to higher education and taught Social Sciences at Bossier Parish Community College. In 1983, he was appointed Director of Community Education, and in 1988, Carleton was appointed to the position of Vice Chancellor of Administrative Affairs. In 1994, he was appointed Chancellor of Bossier Parish Community College, a position he held until retiring on June 30, 2009.

Chancellor Carleton has been employed in education for forty-one years with the last twenty-five years in administration. Chancellor Carleton is a member of Phi Alpha Theta; National Association of Educators; Louisiana Association of Student Personnel Administrators; American Association of Junior College Administrators; and Louisiana Campus Compact (LACC). Carleton served as President of the Consortium for Education, Research, and Technology of North Louisiana (CERT) from 2004-2006. He actively supports his community through membership in the following organizations: BPCC Campus Lion's Club, Bossier Chamber of Commerce, Adkins Lodge F & AM, El Karubah Shrine Temple, Bossier Restoration Foundation, and Southwest Theater, Committee of 100, and the Biomedical Research Foundation.

In 2004, Chancellor Carleton was a recipient of The Times Celebrate Leadership Award. In January 2006, Chancellor Carleton was named "Business Person of the Year" by the Bossier Chamber of Commerce and also selected for membership in the Committee of One Hundred. Carleton will be best remembered as the Chancellor who built BPCC's new, state-of-the-art $56 million dollar college campus. But, if you ask him what accomplishments he's most proud of, he will simply say it is his family and his extended family at BPCC - being able to play a role in the lives of so many people seeking a college education so that they can lead better lives.
