Concert Choir

Concert Choir

Concert ChoirA diverse variety of choir repertoire will be rehearsed and performed each term. Instruction also includes coaching toward proper ensemble and individual performance techniques, sight-reading, and rhythmic reading skills.

MUSC 148: Concert Choir. (1 credit hour) A diverse variety of choir repertoire will be rehearsed and performed each term. Instruction will also include coaching toward proper ensemble/individual performance techniques, sight reading, and rhythmic reading skills. Open to all students. (May be repeated for credit.)

 

Audition Requirements for a Music Scholarship:

  • Prepare one selection of your choice
  • Sight-reading
  • Pitch matching and voice vocalization included

Concert Band

MUSC 140: Concert Band. (1 credit hour) A diverse variety of band repertoire will be rehearsed and performed each term. Works to be studied will include, but not be limited to, orchestral transcriptions, original band and wind ensemble works, solos with band accompaniment, and section features. Instruction will also include coaching toward proper ensemble/individual performance techniques, sight reading, and rhythmic reading skills. Open to all students who have high school experience playing a traditional band instrument. (May be repeated for credit.)

Jazz Ensemble

MUSC 144: Jazz Ensemble. (1 credit hour) A diverse variety of jazz-related repertoire will be rehearsed and performed each term. Works to be studied will include, but not limited to, transcriptions, original jazz and big band ensemble works, solos with band accompaniment, and section features. Instruction will also include coaching toward proper ensemble/individual performance techniques, sight reading, and rhythmic reading skills. Open to all students who have high school experience playing a traditional jazz ensemble instrument. Admittance is based on available seats in the ensemble. (May be repeated for credit.)

Cavalier Show Band

Show BandMembers of the Concert Winds are automatically in the Cavalier Show Band.

 

Audition Requirements for a Music Scholarship:

  • Prepare one selection of your choice
  • Major scales up to 3 #s and 3 bs
  • Sight-reading
  • Drum set styles - Rock, Swing, Latin (set drummers only)

RecitalMusic Scholarships

Music scholarships are available to all students enrolled in the ensembles. An audition is required before a music scholarship may be awarded, but is not required to enroll in the ensembles for credit. (see requirements above)

Don't panic, if you have been active in your high school band or choir, you should possess the skills we are looking for!
