Project R.E.A.D. stands for Reading Enhances Adult Development. The mission of Project R.E.A.D. is to teach adult non-readers basic reading skills. After completing the program, non-readers and challenged readers learn to read at a beginning 6th grade level. All Project R.E.A.D. graduates are referred to an appropriate adult literacy or pre-GED program to continue to increase reading skills or to continue preparation for the GED.
Bossier Parish Community College has supported this volunteer-based program for over 20 years beginning in September 1986. As a community service, BPCC offers the program FREE of charge to all participants.
Project R.E.A.D now offers classes! Students may attend class daily to develop or strengthen their reading skills.
Non-readers, 18 years or older. BPCC offers this program FREE of charge to non-readers. Participants meet with volunteer tutors for private tutoring sessions twice a week at a location convenient and agreeable to both individuals. The tutor and the student determine places and times of tutoring sessions.
