The college is committed to support all students and employees who wish to stop using smoke-producing tobacco products. Assistance to students, faculty and staff is available through Human Resources and Student Services. Please contact either of these departments for information regarding on and off campus cessation programs and services.

Smoking Cessation Trust (SCT )

In late 2011, the judgment of a class action lawsuit entitled Scott v. American Tobacco Company ordered certain tobacco companies to fund a statewide 10-year smoking cessation program to benefit more than 200,000 Louisiana smokers who are members of the plaintiff class (the "Scott Class"). A court-established and court-supervised smoking cessation program to benefit Louisiana residents who began their smoking habit before September 1, 1988.

If you are approved as a MEMBER of the SCOTT class, SCTWill open new browser window or tab will arrange for you to receive, AT NO COST, any of the following cessation services:

  • cessation medications
  • individual / group cessation counseling
  • telephone quit-line support, and/or intensive cessation support services.

American Lung Association/Cessation Programs

To help adult smokers quit, the American Lung AssociationWill open new browser window or tab offers Freedom From Smoking® and the Not-On-Tobacco®, or N-O-T program for 14-19y/o.
