Cavalier Players

This organization is the support group for the two-year associate degree program in Theatre. The Cavalier Players was formed to produce and attend plays, and each year produces three main stage productions, 10 to 20 one-act productions, a Christmas show, and an original children's show that is attended by over 1,500 first-grade students. The organization attends conventions in major Southwest cities and assists members in obtaining summer employment in professional theatres. Membership is open to all students, faculty, staff, as well as members of the community, and is obtained by earning 40 hours a semester in any capacity toward the production of a show. Attend any meeting, rehearsal or audition to join. The Players have received many awards since the organization was founded in 1989, including The Times Drama Awards for Best Production, Best Director, Best Actress, Best Supporting Actress, and Best Technical. No experience is needed, just an appreciation of theatre and a willingness to try. Scholarships are available. Students must be enrolled full-time and have at least a 2.000 cumulative GPA.

Concert Winds: A variety of concert band and popular music repertoire is performed. Open to students with high school band experience. Members of the Concert Winds are automatically members of the Cavalier Show Band, BPCC's Pep Band.
Jazz Ensemble: A variety of styles are performed including jazz, swing, rock, funk, and Latin. Open to students who play a traditional jazz ensemble instrument (trumpet, saxophone, trombone, and/or rhythm section.)

Members of this organization serve as the official hosts and hostesses for Bossier Parish Community College. Candidates are nominated by faculty and staff members and are selected by a committee on the basis of a point system established through personal interviews. Candidates must (1) be full-time students; (2) have a 2.500 GPA when nominated; (3) maintain a 2.000 GPA while serving; (4) display leadership abilities; (5) render service to the College; and (6) participate in College activities.
