Division of Telecommunications

Larry Powell - Dean of Telecommunications

The Division of Telecommunications, located in Building D, provides hands-on education for students and schedules live and taped television programming for its own cable channel--Public, Education, and Government (PEG)--on the local cable system.

The division has the capability of bringing Bossier City Council meetings live from the council chambers via cable t-loop. Live broadcasts from the college's gymnasium and theatre are carried over single-mode fiber optics. Other remote television broadcasts originate from its mobile production van.

The Electronic Field Production (EFP/ENG) van is used for classroom instruction, as well as for studio production, and is fully equipped with a microwave transmitter and supporting equipment. Students also utilize a television production lab classroom for training and program origination coupled with the use of a full production television studio. All remote sites and lab are networked to the Telecommunications Master Control Center.
