The Workplace Literacy Program offers individuals the opportunity to develop and enhance basic skills needed for employment, promotion, or post-secondary education enrollment. The program consists of three areas: BPCC Middle College, and WorkKeys.

BPCC Middle College

BPCC Middle College is a program combining college credit courses and GED Prep classes.

Program consists of:

  • 12 Hours College Credit
    Middle College students will be enrolled in credit classes as a “Learning Community”
  • GED Prep Classes
    Students will attend GED classes 12 hours per week

WorkKeys

The WorkKeys program offers individuals the opportunity to enhance work-related skills directly tied to industry and business needs. Training and assessments are available in the following areas:

  • Applied Technology
  • Locating Information
  • Applied Math
  • Business Writing
  • Reading for Information
  • Listening and Writing
  • Teamwork
  • Observation Skills

The Act® National Career Readiness Certificate

Individuals are also allowed the opportunity to earn a National Career Readiness Certificate from ACT®. This is a credential accepted by many area employers as a measure of basic skill levels when an applicant has limited education credentials.

The Act® National Career Readiness Certificate is a portable credential used to demonstrate individual work skills to employers.

  • Bronze Certificate indicates that certificate holder possesses skills meeting requirements of 33% jobs profiled by ACT
  • Silver Certificate that certificate holder possesses skills meeting requirements of 50% jobs profiled by ACT
  • Gold Certificate that certificate holder possesses skills meeting requirements of 80% jobs profiled by ACT
