The BPCC Music Program will present its Spring Pops Concert at 7:30 p.m. on Thursday, March 5, in the Stephen W. Slaughter Theatre, Building C on the BPCC campus, 6220 E. Texas St., Bossier City, LA. This concert is free and open to the public.
The inaugural BPCC Music Program Pops Concert series started in 2012 when the Concert Winds and Concert Choir shared the stage for an evening of light and popular music. This year the program will pair the BPCC Jazz Band with the Concert Choir for the first time.
The BPPC Jazz Band under the direction of Mr. Joshua Waldrop will perform a number of jazz and blues favorites. Musical selections will include: The Girl From Ipanema – Antonio Carlos Jobin and Vincius De Moraes, Arr. Roger Holms; Don’t Know Why – Jesse Harris, Arr. Paul Murtha; I’ve Got You Under My Skin – Cole Porter, Arr. Mark Taylor; Someone To Watch Over Me – George and Ira Gershwin, Arr. Dave Wolpe; At Last – Harry Warren and Mack Gordon, Arr. Dave Wolpe; Summertime – George and Ira Gershwin, Arr. Dave Wolpe; Blue Skies – Irving Berlin, Arr. Roger Holms.
The Concert Choir, under the direction of Mr. William Bond, Jr. and accompanied by pianist Dr. Gulya Chandler, take the stage to perform popular selections guaranteed to bring enjoyment to audiences of all ages. Musical selections will include: The Sound of Silence by Paul Simon, arranged by Mark Hayes; Get on Your Feet by John DeFaria, Clay Ostwald, and Jorge Casa, arranged by Kirby Shaw; What the World Needs Now by Hal David and Burt Bacharach, arranged by Jay Rouse; Don’t Go Breaking My Heart by Carte Blanche and Ann Orson, arranged by Mark Brymer.
Many of the students enrolled in the ensembles are music scholarship recipients.
