The Bossier Parish Community College Theatre Program’s virtual production of the romantic comedy Why Cupid Came to Earl's Court was honored by the Kennedy Center American College Theatre Festival (KCACTF). The show was live streamed via Twitch in August and again in September and included a talk back session on Zoom which allowed the show to be considered for meritorious awards from the regional committee.
Why Cupid Came to Earl's Court received the honor of being "held" for consideration to be presented at the Regional Kennedy Center Festival being held virtually in February 2021. Dr. Ray Scott Crawford, Dean of Communication and Performing Arts, directed the production, and the Cavalier Players produced the show which was rehearsed and performed on Zoom.
This unique virtual show provided Cason Smith with the opportunity to earn the “Excellence in Recording, Editing and Sound Effects” award for his work in video production and live streaming.
Dr. Ray Scott Crawford received the “Excellence in Directing” award for his innovative approach to virtual staging.
Cast members Jeroen Kales and Anne Brown earned the “Excellence in Acting” award for their performance as characters Harry and Sybil.
The KCACTF encourages, recognizes, and celebrates the finest and most diverse work produced in university and college theatre programs across the country. Region VI includes Arkansas, Oklahoma, Louisiana, Texas, Missouri, and New Mexico. Eight plays will be chosen from this six-state area to perform at the virtual Region VI festival in February 2021.
