Science and Engineering Fair
BPCC Louisiana Region 1
The 2023 Regional Fair will return to a fully in-person this year on March 9 – 11, 2023 at Bossier Parish Community College - Bossier Campus, Building L. BPCC welcomes students from Bossier, Caddo, DeSoto, Red River, and Webster Parishes to participate in our fair.
Fair Entry
- All projects entering our fair must have placed at a school science fair.
- All projects entering our fair must be registered by their school sponsor/teacher.
- All projects must submit an official entry form along with an individual participant entry fee of $25.
Divisions
- A – Grades 4-5 (Elementary)
- B – Grades 6-8 (Middle)
- C – Grades 9-12 (Senior)

**Projects must be set up and cleared by Display and Safety on Thursday, March 9th. Projects not set up on Thursday WILL NOT be able to participate.

All students entering the fair must submit the following:
- An entry form into the fair along with $25 entry fee
- Project Registration forms completed on Scienteer
Registration Information:
On-line project registration opens Dec. 12, 2022 using one of the sites below:
If you had an account with Scienteer last year, login using your previous username and password. If you are a new student once you click the link you will choose the “Student” block from here, you will create your account and fill out your basic information. At the end you have to get your parent’s permission. Your account will not work until your parent gives you permission.
- Fill out the information and enter your parent’s e-mail. Your parent will receive an e-mail from scienteer and your parent can follow the link in the e-mail to give their permission electronically.
- If your parent does not have e-mail or is not receiving the e-mail, click “My parent or guardian does not have e-mail access”. You will be given the option to print out the documents and take them home to get them signed. After they are signed bring them back to your teacher, your teacher will then create your account manually.
Display and Safety
Please follow IISEF Display and Safety Guidelines.
Maximum Size of Project
- Depth (front to back): 30 inches or 76 centimeters Width (side to side): 48 inches or 122 centimeters Height (floor to top): 108 inches or 274 centimeters
- All projects displays must include:
- Research Plan
- Abstract of 250 words maximum
The following are NOT allowed at your displayed project:
- Living organisms, including plants
- Soil, sand, rocks, cement, waste samples
- Taxidermy specimens
- Preserved vertebrate or invertebrate animals
- Human or animal food
- Human/animal parts or body fluids
- Plant materials
- All chemicals including water
- All hazardous substances or devices
- Items that have been in contact with hazardous chemicals
- 3-D printers
- Dry ice
- Sharp items
- Flames or highly flammable materials
- Batteries with open-top cells or wet cells
- Glass or glass objects
- Any other apparatus deemed unsafe by SRC or Display and Safety Committee
Reminders on Pre-Approval projects:
All projects involving Huma Subjects, Vertebrate Organisms, or Potentially Hazardous Biological Agents MUST get pre-approval by your institutional Review Board (IRB) and/or our regional Scientific Review Committee (SRC) before starting the project. Please remember that projects in which microbes are grown (except baker’s yeasts) MUST be conducted in a BSL-2 facility under the supervision of an individual with an advanced degree in microbiology or extensive knowledge and experience in microbiology.

Project Registration
Project Registration paperwork will again be submitted through the Scienteer software platform.

Activating your Scienteer account:
- If you had an administrator account for your school fair last year, simply go to www.scienteer.com and log in and choose the admin role. This will activate your account for the new season. You will need to follow the steps to update your information and open your school registration.
- If the School had an account last year, but had a different administrator, contact your district or regional fair. They will need to add you to the admin account of that school.
- If your School had no account last year, contact your district or regional fair and they will send you a registration link. If you have an existing user account, be sure to use that same information (username, email and password) for each account that you create.
