The Bossier Parish Community College Theatre Program and the Cavalier Players will host an Audition Prep Workshop and open auditions for their upcoming fall production, An Evening with Edgar Allan Poe, adapted by Robert Mason and directed by Dr. Ray Scott Crawford.
The Audition Prep Workshop, led by Shreveport native and BPCC Theatre alum Lari Leber, is scheduled for Wednesday, August 6, at 6pm in the Stephen W. Slaughter Theatre (inside Building C) on the BPCC campus, 6220 East Texas Street in Bossier City. Designed to help actors feel confident and prepared, the workshop will offer practical tips for selecting a monologue, calming nerves, and presenting oneself professionally at auditions. Participants seeking personalized feedback should bring a 45-second dramatic monologue. Water, a notebook, and questions are encouraged.
Lari Leber holds theatre degrees from Northwestern State University and Louisiana Tech University and has directed numerous productions, including Radium Girls and I Love You, You’re Perfect, Now Change. She is a recipient of the 2020 Arthur W. Stone Playwriting Award and a recent Kennedy Center commendation for fight choreography.
Following the workshop, open auditions for An Evening with Edgar Allan Poe will be held Monday, August 18, at 6:30pm also in the Stephen W. Slaughter Theatre. Auditions are open to community members and students aged 17 and older. Roles are available for four women, eight men, and two actors of any gender. No roles are precast.
Those auditioning should expect to read from the script, move about the stage, and may be asked to improvise. Prepared monologues are welcomed, but not required (except for returning BPCC Theatre students, who must present a 45-second monologue). Comfortable attire is recommended. Participants should arrive at least 15 minutes early to complete the audition form and are encouraged to bring a headshot and resume if available.
An Evening with Edgar Allan Poe presents six chilling adaptations of Poe’s classic stories, including The Cask of Amontillado, The Tell-Tale Heart, The Fall of the House of Usher, and more. Performances are scheduled for 7:30 p.m. on October 3, 4, 10, and 11, and 2:00 p.m. matinees on October 5 and 12. For more information, contact BPCC Theatre at 318-678-6021 or dcole@bpcc.edu.
