BOSSIER CITY – When college life feels overwhelming, students at Bossier Parish Community College now have a place to pause, breathe, and find support. The College’s new Counseling Center serves as a dedicated, student-centered space designed to promote mental health, wellness, and overall well-being.

The Counseling Center provides students with private, welcoming areas to meet one-on-one with licensed mental health professionals, as well as a newly designed sensory room aimed at helping students manage stress and decompress while on campus. The sensory room offers a calming environment where students can journal, participate in counseling-based games, and take a brief mental break from the demands of classes and daily responsibilities.

“Our students are balancing academics, work, family responsibilities, and personal challenges every day. Supporting their mental health is not optional. It’s essential,” said Chancellor Dr. Rick Bateman, Jr. “This center ensures our students have access to the support they need, when they need it, and in an environment designed with their well-being in mind.”

BPCC’s Counseling Center was made possible through a Mental Health Grant awarded to all Louisiana Community and Technical College System (LCTCS) institutions to support campus mental health initiatives.  Emily Holloway, Campus Counselor, said the College has experienced a noticeable increase in the number of students seeking mental health support, reinforcing the importance of accessible services and proactive wellness resources on campus.

"We are very excited to introduce this new Counseling Center and Sensory Space for our students,” said Holloway. “This space will continue to provide free mental health services and offer a safe, supportive environment when life feels overwhelming. BPCC prides itself on being a Caring Campus, and this Counseling Center marks another important step toward advancing that commitment."
