Bossier Parish Community College Drives $501 Million Economic Impact Across Northwest Louisiana

Bossier Parish Community College (BPCC) continues to serve as a powerful economic engine for Northwest Louisiana, generating $501 million in annual economic impact and supporting 6,774 jobs across the region, according to a newly released economic impact study conducted by Lightcast.

The report highlights BPCC’s critical role in delivering a strong return on investment (ROI) for students, taxpayers, and the state—while directly fueling workforce readiness and regional economic growth.

“BPCC is far more than a college. It’s a workforce engine for Northwest Louisiana,” said Dr. Rick Bateman, Jr., Chancellor of Bossier Parish Community College. “Every dollar invested here delivers real value for our students, our employers, and our taxpayers. We’re developing the skilled talent that strengthens Louisiana’s economy today and fuels the region’s growth for years to come.”

A High-Return Investment for Louisiana

The study underscores BPCC’s exceptional return on investment across multiple stakeholder groups:

  • Students earn $4.00 for every $1 invested in their education
  • Taxpayers receive $4.20 for every $1 invested in BPCC
  • Society benefits by $8.40 for every $1 invested, generating nearly $967 million in total statewide benefits

These outcomes demonstrate that BPCC is not only affordable—it is one of the most effective public investments in Louisiana.

Fueling Workforce Readiness and Regional Growth

BPCC plays a vital role in developing a skilled workforce aligned with regional industry needs. Graduates enter the workforce with in-demand skills that increase productivity and earnings across key sectors.

  • BPCC alumni contribute $454.9 million in added income to the regional economy annually
  • Graduates earn an average of $10,800 more per year than high school graduates
  • BPCC supports workforce pipelines across healthcare, technical services, retail, and other critical industries

In addition, BPCC’s operations and student spending contribute more than $46 million annually to the local economy, reinforcing the college’s role as both a workforce provider and economic stabilizer.

A Cornerstone of Northwest Louisiana’s Economy

BPCC’s total impact represents 2.1% of the region’s gross regional product, with one out of every 38 jobs in Northwest Louisiana supported by the college and its students.

By attracting students, retaining local talent, and supplying trained workers to regional employers, BPCC continues to serve as a cornerstone of economic vitality in Bossier, Caddo, Claiborne, and Webster parishes.
