Training Descriptions

The following information contains descriptions of training offered by the Division of Educational Technology.

myBPCC Training

  • Please note that myBPCC Training has been broken down into modules.
  • Completion of all five modules is mandatory for all full-time and adjunct faculty prior to receiving instructor status within myBPCC.
  • Participants must possess the following skills prior to attending myBPCC Training:
    • Basic Computer Skills
      • Use of word processor
      • Use of Email
      • File management
    • Basic Internet Skills
      • Use of browser Search Engines
      • Uploading and downloading files
  • This myBPCC training is available to all full time staff and faculty and adjunct faculty.

Intro to myBPCC ONLINE consists of 5 modules:

  • Module 1: Overview of myBPCC – You will learn how myBPCC is organized and the function of the main buttons.
  • Module 2: Communication in myBPCC – You will post answers to questions in myBPCC’s discussion board.
  • Module 3: Online quizzes – You will take an online quiz about myBPCC and see your grade.
  • Module 4: Using myBPCC in instruction – You will get ideas for using myBPCC to teach online or to supplement an on-campus class (web-enhanced).
  • Module 5: Online surveys and sending email through myBPCC – You will complete an online evaluation and also use myBPCC’s “Send email” feature.

myBPCC’s Text Box Editor Training

  • This hands-on training session will provide you with a more in depth look at the features of myBPCC’s Text Box Editor and how to post your Course Section Information Sheet using UDL (Universal Design for Learning) requirements.
  • Bring your CSIS and Course Syllabus in digital format on CD or flash drive. No floppy disks, please!

Camtasia Studio Training

Camtasia Studio is screen capturing software that allows you to easily create video presentations for delivery via the Web or CD-ROM.

  • Part I: Basic
    In this session, you will be introduced to the basic functions required to produce a Camtasia Studio project.
  • Part II: Advanced
    You will learn how to add narration to your project and edit audio. You will also learn how to insert “Call Outs” (closed captioning) to the video project.

Utilizing myBPCC’s Discussion Board Effectively

  • In this seminar, you will be presented with various ways to enhance interaction between you and your students in your online course(s) using myBPCC’s Discussion Board.
  • This session is mandatory for online instructors. All faculty are welcome.

Improving Online Teaching and Learning

Protecting the Integrity of Your Online Exams

  • Have you ever wondered how safe your online exams really are? Come join us to check out how you can preserve the integrity of your online exams!
  • You will be presented with options for deploying tests including a couple of new features in myBPCC. You will also be given instructions for disallowing printing and copying/pasting of online tests.

PowerPoint Basics – Getting Started

This session is for the inexperienced user or a semi-experienced user who needs a refresher course.


  • Creating slides for presentation
  • Inserting and formatting text
  • Selecting backgrounds and color schemes
  • Inserting clip art
  • Easy to create outlines
  • Discuss the elements of great PowerPoint presentations

This is a hands-on session, so please bring a flash drive or blank CD to save your PowerPoint file. The session will include handouts of training materials and additional resources. Seating is limited to 10, so reserve your place early.

PowerPoint – Advanced Tools

This session is for experienced users wanting to implement advanced PowerPoint tools to enhance their presentations.

Using advanced tools for slide design:

  • Summary slides
  • Transitions and animations
  • Formatting and aligning text
  • Drawing objects
  • Adding tables and flow charts

Using PowerPoint for class interactivity:

  • Using action buttons to navigate your presentation
  • Highlighting during a presentation
  • Adding hyperlinked text
  • Using black screen during presentations
  • Handout options
  • Discussion of current trends

This is a hands-on session, so please bring an existing PowerPoint file on a flash drive or CD-ROM. The session will include handouts of training materials and additional resources. Seating is limited to 10, so reserve your place early.

Applying Quality Matters (QM) Standards to the Online Course Evaluation

Quality Matters is a nationally recognized online course evaluation rubric based on standards and best practices. The implementation of the QM rubric is currently a state-wide initiative.

  • In this workshop, you will be given tips to help you implement the QM rubric in your online course(s). Examples of Unsatisfactory, Needs Improving, Exceeds Expectations and/or Outstanding will be given for the following content areas:
    • Course Overview and Introduction

    • Assessment and Measurement
    • Resources and Materials

  • This training is mandatory for new and/or potential online faculty/adjunct ONLY. Does not include BPCC Accelerated faculty.

SoftChalk is a program that allows you to create interactive web lessons for your online course(s).

  • In this hands-on training session, you will learn how to easily create lessons that include pop-up text annotations, matching exercises, crossword puzzles, self-assessment quizzes, and interactive learning games.
  • You will also learn how to package and upload your lessons to your myBPCC course.
