BPCC DEBATE TEAM TO HOST INTERCOLLEGIATE DEBATE TOURNAMENT THIS WEEKEND

The BPCC Debate Team will host the 11th Annual Eddy Shell Invitational Debate Tournament this weekend, February 15-17, in Building F on the BPCC campus, 6220 E. Texas St, Bossier City, LA.

The competition, which will feature more than 200 competitors from 25 colleges/universities, is named in honor of Dr. Edwin T. “Eddy” Shell, who taught speech at BPCC for forty years until his passing in 2008 after a battle with cancer.

In its first 10 years, the tournament has attracted 44 different colleges and universities from seven states to the BPCC campus.

“It’s nice to be able to showcase our campus to many of the colleges and universities that we see week-in/week out in competitions around the region,” said Team Captain Sydney Green.

Debate Team Coach Bob Alexander added, “This event provides us the chance to both honor the memory of Dr. Shell and provide a unique opportunity for BPCC students, faculty, staff and members of the community to see some of the top intercollegiate debaters who will ultimately be the leaders of their generation.”

Competition runs from 12:00 pm-9:45 pm on Friday, Feb. 15; 9:30 am-8:30 pm on Saturday, Feb. 16 and 8:30 am-11:30 am on Sunday, February 17, and will be headquartered in Building F.
