Bossier Parish Community College will hold its 81st commencement ceremonies on Friday, May 10, at the College’s Health & Physical Education complex, 6220 E. Texas St., Bossier City, LA.
The College will hold two ceremonies:
- 9:30 am – for the divisions of Technology, Engineering and Mathematics AND Science, Nursing and Allied Health
- 2:00 pm – for the divisions of Behavioral-Social Sciences; Business; Communication and Performing Arts; and Liberal Arts
Speaker for both ceremonies will be Michael H. Woods, president of Woods Operating Co., Inc., and member of the BPCC Foundation’s Board of Directors.
For graduates’ friends and family who cannot attend the commencement ceremonies on Friday, both programs will be streamed LIVE online at https://www.bpcc.edu/wordpress/index.php/graduation-spring/.

Tonight, Wednesday, May 8 – Phi Theta Kappa Induction Ceremony
The Bossier Parish Community College Alpha Rho Phi Chapter of the Phi Theta Kappa International Honor Society will induct its 2019 members at 7:00 pm Wednesday, May 8, at the BPCC Performing Arts Theatre, 6220 E. Texas Street, Bossier City, LA.
Phi Theta Kappa is the international honor society of two-year colleges, particularly community and junior colleges. Headquartered in Jackson, MS, the society has more than 1,250 chapters worldwide and more than 2 million members, including Apollo 13 astronaut Fred Haise, country musician Trisha Yearwood, entrepreneur and former presidential candidate Henry Ross Perot and Emmy Award winning actress Sela Ward.
A student is invited to join the Alpha Rho Phi Chapter of Phi Theta Kappa at Bossier Parish Community College if he/she is enrolled at the College in at least 3 credit hours, has earned at least 12 credit hours of degree course work, and has maintained at least a 3.5 grade point average. Benefits of joining Phi Theta Kappa include the right to wear honors regalia at graduation and access to more than $37 million in transfer scholarships to four-year universities throughout the world offered exclusively to members.
Thursday, May 9– Pinning & Nursing Honor Society Ceremonies for Spring 2019 Nursing Class
BPCC will hold the pinning ceremony for its spring graduating class of nursing students at 6:00 pm on Thursday, May 9 in the Health & Physical Education Complex (GYM) on the BPCC campus, 6220 E. Texas St., Bossier City, LA.
The pinning ceremony is often more personally meaningful for the student than the graduation ceremony. It signifies the student’s official initiation into the brotherhood and sisterhood of nurses.
“The pinning ceremony is a time-honored tradition in nursing,” says BPCC Nursing Program Administrator Sharon Turley, MSN, RN. “Its history can be traced back to the Crusades of the 12th century when the Maltese cross was adopted by Crusaders to wear on their habits as a symbol of service. Throughout the years, the symbol was modified and eventually was given by the hospital school of nursing to students to identify them as nurses who were educated to serve the health needs of society.”
During the pinning ceremony, the Beta Zeta chapter of the Alpha Delta Nu Honor Society at BPCC will be inducting two new members – Amber Salter and Stacie Archibald. In order to qualify for induction, these prospective members had to complete a capstone project as well as maintain an overall B GPA average and a B in all nursing classes.
The spring 2019 class of registered nurses will graduate from the College on Friday, May 10, 2019.
